Moria Goblins

It would appear to all intent and purposes that I've not been doing much of late but that couldn't be further from the truth. I've taken on commission work for Foundry and unfortunately until they give me permission, I'm not allowed to publicly display any of my work. What I have managed to do in-between is carry on trying to get the Mines of Moria box set painted so I can give my son that game I've been promising him for so long now. I've managed to paint the 8 goblin archers that are in the set. Wish I could say I enjoyed painting them but I'm still not all that impressed with the quality of the figures. So here they are, a bit slap dash but at least they're done. Just 16 more gobbo's and a cave troll and I can get my arse kicked by my son , who's much better at playing the games than me (it's more about the painting, for me).

Heroes of the Alamo

This was my entry for the Steve Dean painting competition. Again I enjoyed taking part very much and was pleased and pleasantly surprised it got to the semi-finals, where it was knocked out (justifiably so) by some superbly painted Ratling Snipers. I could not compete with egg shells and apple peel, modelled on the base of the figures, stunning. I'm glad to see this and the other entry that I lost against in my category, the Samurai Command both in the finals; two very well matched opponents. To be honest I thought I was out when I went up against a very nicely painted Slaine 2000AD figure with its excellent black and yellow tartan, but just managed to scrape through. Bring on the next comp.

The 44th East Essex

Finally finished the East Essex command stand, I've been working on for a good while now. Pleased with the outcome considering Napoleonics is not my period as such. I bought the Offensive Miniatures (http://www.offensiveminiatures.com/) Napoleonic command set from Salute so I'll probably do that next, with a view to buying more of that range of figures as I like the look of them. The flags are not yet glued in place, just held with a bit of blue tac. I doubt whether they would survive transit, if I sell them, which I probably will. I inadvertently painted the squadies gun strap the same wood colour as the stock, which until it was pointed out, had escaped my notice. Luckily this was easily corrected.

Crusader Miniatures German Tank Hunters

Bought a North Star Miniatures (http://www.northstarfigures.com/)  lucky bag and these were some of the figures that were in it. I'm really enjoying painting World War II figures at the moment, especially Germans. Lets face it they did have the coolest uniforms and weapons. The other figures in the lucky bag were Artizan Designs German Panzer Lehr. Hopefully I'll get around to painting them someday soon, although I've got all the figures I bought from Salute. So many figures so little time (damn that would of been a better title for this blog, never mind).

Alternative Armies 105th Rifleorcs

Had these hanging around on my bench for a while now so thought it was time to finish them off. I love the quirkiness of the Alternative Armies stuff. Set in an Napoleonic fantasy world (I can imagine all the Naps. purists rolling their eyes and wondering if there's anything sacred left in the world), Orcs take on the role of the English, Elves the French, the Scots are rats, the Portuguese goblins, Spanish are dark elves and the Russians are undead etc etc, I think you get the idea. I think they might of gone too far with the Dodo cavalry though. Elves are to come.

Pinkertons

Some Artizan Pinkertons; lovely sculpts once again.
